Additional Insured (Ongoing Operations) — 04 13 Edition
The current CG 20 10 edition — adds a limits cap and 'not broader than required by contract' language.
What it actually does
CG 20 10 04 13 is the April 2013 edition of the scheduled ongoing-operations additional-insured endorsement. It carries forward the 07 04 trigger — coverage for liability "caused, in whole or in part, by" the named insured's acts or omissions — and adds two limiters that materially affect the additional insured.
First, the coverage provided to the additional insured is "not broader than" what the written contract requires. Second, the most the policy will pay on the additional insured's behalf is capped at the lesser of the limits the contract requires or the limits of the policy. Together these prevent an AI from getting more coverage than the contract bargained for.
This is the edition most current subcontracts specify. It still covers ongoing operations only — pair it with CG 20 37 04 13 for completed operations.
Verification checklist
- 01Confirm the form's lower-corner edition reads '04 13'.
- 02Check the schedule names the GC/owner and the project.
- 03Confirm the contract-required limits are met, since the AI's recovery is capped at the lower of contract or policy limits.
- 04Pair with CG 20 37 04 13 if completed operations are required.
Which edition do you have?
Versus 07 04: the 04 13 edition added the "not broader than required by contract" clause and the "lower of contract-required or policy limits" cap. Versus 10 01: 10 01 used the broader "arising out of your ongoing operations" trigger with no limits cap. If your contract requires a specific edition, match it exactly.
Common mistakes
- ·Assuming the 04 13 edition gives the AI the full policy limits — it's capped at the contract-required limits if lower.
- ·Accepting 04 13 ongoing-ops alone when completed operations are needed.
