CG 20 10 10 01CGL

Additional Insured (Ongoing Operations) — 10 01 Edition

The broad, pre-2004 CG 20 10 edition — 'arising out of your ongoing operations,' no limits cap.

What it actually does

CG 20 10 10 01 is the October 2001 edition of the scheduled ongoing-operations additional-insured endorsement. It is notably broader than the later 07 04 and 04 13 editions because its trigger is liability "arising out of your ongoing operations performed for that insured" — a causation standard courts have read expansively.

Crucially, the 10 01 edition has no "lower of" limits cap and no "not broader than required by contract" language, so an additional insured can in some cases access the full policy limits. Some sophisticated GCs deliberately require the 10 01 edition for this reason.

It remains ongoing-operations only; it does not include completed operations. Because it predates the 2004 ISO revisions, brokers sometimes cannot issue it on current policies — verify availability rather than assuming.

Verification checklist

  • 01Confirm the lower-corner edition reads '10 01'.
  • 02Verify the carrier will actually issue this older edition on the current policy.
  • 03Check the schedule names the GC/owner and project.
  • 04Add CG 20 37 for completed operations.

Which edition do you have?

The 10 01 edition uses the broad "arising out of your ongoing operations" trigger and lacks the limits cap and contract-limiting language introduced in 04 13. Many carriers no longer offer 10 01 on new policies; confirm it can actually be issued before requiring it.

Common mistakes

  • ·Requiring the 10 01 edition without confirming the sub's carrier still issues it.
  • ·Believing 10 01 covers completed operations — it doesn't.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some GCs prefer CG 20 10 10 01?

Because its 'arising out of' trigger is broader and it has no limits cap, so the additional insured can potentially access fuller coverage than under the 04 13 edition.

Can a sub still get the 10 01 edition?

Not always. Many carriers only issue current editions on new policies. Confirm availability before you require it in a subcontract.

Does CG 20 10 10 01 include completed operations?

No. It's ongoing operations only; pair it with CG 20 37 for completed operations.
