CG 20 15CGL

Additional Insured — Vendors

Adds a vendor as AI for liability arising out of the named insured's products they distribute/sell.

What it actually does

CG 20 15 adds a designated vendor as an additional insured, but only for "bodily injury" or "property damage" arising out of the named insured's products that are distributed or sold in the regular course of the vendor's business. It's a products-liability additional-insured form, used in manufacturer/distributor/retailer supply chains — not a construction-operations form.

The endorsement carries a long list of built-in exclusions: it doesn't cover the vendor's own repackaging, demonstration, installation, or other operations on the product, nor products the vendor itself manufactured. The point is to protect a reseller from claims based purely on selling the manufacturer's product as-is.

In construction COI review you'll occasionally see CG 20 15 when a material supplier is involved. For trade-contractor subcontracts, the owners/lessees/contractors AI forms (CG 20 10 / 20 37 / 20 38) are the relevant ones, not CG 20 15.

Verification checklist

  • 01Confirm the vendor is correctly named and the products are the manufacturer's, sold as-is.
  • 02Understand the form's many exclusions (no coverage for the vendor's own operations on the product).
  • 03For trade subcontracts, verify the proper operations AI forms are present instead.

Common mistakes

  • ·Accepting CG 20 15 to satisfy a construction-operations AI requirement — wrong form family.
  • ·Assuming it covers the vendor's installation or repackaging — those are excluded.
