Additional Insured — Designated Person Or Organization
Broader additional-insured form than CG 20 10 — covers acts of either party, not just ongoing operations.
What it actually does
CG 20 26 names a designated person or organization as an additional insured under the CGL, but unlike CG 20 10 it is not limited to liability arising out of the named insured's ongoing operations. It is broader: the additional insured is covered for liability "caused, in whole or in part" by the acts or omissions of the named insured *or those acting on their behalf*.
This form is sometimes preferred by GCs because it doesn't require the act causing the loss to be tied to a specific scope of operations. However, post-2013 ISO revisions narrowed CG 20 26 in important ways — particularly around subrogation between insureds and contributory negligence — so language should be reviewed carefully.
CG 20 26 does not by itself include completed-operations coverage; pair with CG 20 37 if needed.
Verification checklist
- 01Read the endorsement form date — pre-2013 and post-2013 versions have different scopes.
- 02Confirm the additional insured name on the schedule matches the subcontract requirement.
- 03Verify completed-operations coverage is provided separately if needed.
- 04Check whether the subcontract specifically requires CG 20 10 or CG 20 26 (some prefer one over the other).
Common mistakes
- ·Accepting CG 20 26 in lieu of CG 20 10 when the subcontract specifies CG 20 10 — they have different triggers.
- ·Missing that CG 20 26 still requires the named-insured's involvement to trigger coverage; it's not 'cover everything' for the AI.
- ·Overlooking that completed operations are not included.
